동명사 정리
오늘은 동명사와 명사의 구별, 동명사를 목적어로 취하는 동사, 관용적인 용법에 대해서 알아볼께요. 토익에서 심심치 않게 출제되는 문법 문제가 동명사인 만큼 꼭 알아두여야 하는데요. 그럼 본격적으로 시작해 보겠습니다.
1. 역할과 형태
* 동명사란 - 동명사는 명사 역할을 하며 동사처럼 목적어 또는 보어와 함게 쓰일 수 있고 부사의 수식을 받을 수 있다.
1)동명사 자리
주어, 목적어(타동사/ 전치사) 자리
주어: Providing a loan will allow the bank to collect interest.
목적어: The director aims at reducing corporate debt.
2) 동명사 형태
<동사 + ing>
수동형 being p.p.
완료형 having p.p.
3)의미상의 주어
동명사 앞에 소유격으로 표시
Her working on the chemical research project was well supported by the CEO
4) 형태
<to + 동사원형>
수동형 to be p.p.
진행형 to be ~ing
완료형 to have p.p.
2. 동명사와 명사
1) 명사는 형용사의 수식을 받지만 동명사는 부사의 수식을 받습니다.
Delong Industry will try to attract prospective buyers by effectively advertising its Website nationwide.
(= effective advertisements of its Web site)
2) 명사는 관사와 함께 쓰일 수 있지만 동명사는 관사와 함께 사용할 수 없다.
Mr. Cho suggested supporting environmental organizations in Europe.
(= the support of environmental organizations)
3) 명사는 목적어를 취할 수 없으나 동명사는 목적어를 취한다.

3. 동명사를 목적어로 취하는 동사
1) 동사+동명사

consider/ suggest/ recommend
quit/ finish/ discontinue

참고로 아래 동사는 뒤에 동명사와 To 부정사 둘 다 올 수 있지만 의미는 변하지 않는다.
